Note to Bands: They Take Bottling Seriously in Australia

Sure, we've all seen videos of bands getting bottled -- usually in the UK. But in Sydney, Australia, As I Lay Dying learned an all new meaning of being bottled, when Nick took a bottle of Maker's Mark to the head. People actually get bottles of liquor into/at shows over there? That's insane! In New York, they pour even water into these tiny cups that spill all over when you're watching the band, just to ensure you don't have anything [other than a cup, I suppose] to toss at the band. So pardon me while I marvel at the idea of someone chucking a whisky bottle at the stage.

Nick commented on the incident, which caused the band to cut their set short:

Sydney Bottle Throwing Incident Hey everyone, So last night I got hit in the head by an empty glass Maker's Mark bottle. While it did stun and disorient me, I am completely fine.
Lucky for me the bottle was huge so it didn't break and I have no need for stitches. I'm sorry we had to stop our set but I was quite discombobulated for a good while, and more importantly the EMT dude wouldn't let me play because my head was bleeding quite a bit...or some sort of mumbo jumbo like that.
I am happy to say that aside from having a bulbous lump and cut on top of my skull, I'm in good health and feeling like a gladiator.
Thank you to everyone who has been expressing concern though, I really appreciate it : ) Nick

Insane....

As always, I will never grasp why people go to shows and then throw things at the bands. I know you can end up at a show with multiple bands where you really like one, or like all but one, but what causes someone to actually attempt to injure a band? Believe me, I've suffered through some bands that made me wonder if the band I was there to see was really worth it... but I still never thought, "I know! Let me try to harm someone!"

Ah well. At least Nick is doing well, because getting hit in the head with a bottle of Maker's Mark is something that would undoubtedly suck.
