Say Anything To Record New Album This Year [and more]

During last night's Warped Tour chat -- which had about 7,000 people asking questions rapid-fire -- the band let us in on some news about the next Say Anything album. I did my best to grab the questions and answers of interest, for anyone who missed the chat.

When asked about new material, Max said: "We're going to start working on one this year, we think. Word." No answer about when they think that will happen, but I wouldn't expect it to be released until 2009. However, later in the chat, Max said the album will be called This is Forever, and as he's mentioned in other interviews, it will focus a lot on his/the band's relationship with God.

When asked about new songs and a solo project, we learned that Max and Coby started a band with Dave and Chris from Saves The Day and while it does not have a name yet, the album will be out sometime this year. Sweet.

Other questions that stood out for me:

Can you write good lyrics without hurt in your life?

Max: Yes but there is always some hurt in life... nothing could ever be perfect on this earth of ours.

Are you polyamorous or do you believe monogamy can exist?

Max: Monogamy is possible for anyone who really wants it. I am one of those people.

Would you do Harry Potter?

Max: I'd rather do the horse he posed with.

Who would win a fight with Fall Out Boy?

Max: They could probably all beat me up except for that Patrick dude.

What is the craziest thing a fan has ever said?

Max: That she is dating me and I gave her a Hanukkah bear for a present.

Do you have any advice for aspiring songwriters?

Max: Believe you can be better than whoever you want to be if you really try. [This is universal advice, by the way -- I love it.]

And finally, Max detailed his tattoos:

I just got Mr. Johnny Cash on my arm and I have a heart shielding a candle from a Saves The Day patch on my back, a Trail of Dead quote on my arm, and "per diem" on my wrist.

There was tons more going on in the chat, but these are the pieces that really stood out for me.

Ah, Max Bemis....

Official: Max Bemis Can Do No Wrong

Breaking news! Let me say it again: It is official -- Max Bemis can do no wrong. He can even achieve the impossible, as evidenced by Say Anything's cover of a rap song called, "Got Yr Money." In fairness, it's hilarious, and probably sounds nothing like the original, but... this is as close as it comes to pixie tolerating -- and even liking -- rap, so.... let's officially label Max Bemis the king of the impossible task:

I bet if Max Bemis laid his hands on my head, my scratched cornea would magically heal. Because the bandages and eye drops and contact lense and other things aren't doing all that much, considering typing this post has taken almost two hours.... [That was my dog's birthday gift to me on Sunday night -- a scratched cornea. Thanks, dog!]

This song will be featured on Punk Goes Crunk, which is out in April. I was sort of... afraid... of this album, largely because of this song, which I am pretty sure I have listened to six times in a row now. Good stuff... I'm pretty much in awe.
