Apparently Some People Don't Like This Ashlee Simpson Character

Ashlee Simpson -- or as teenage girls like to call her, "that bitch who's dating Pete Wentz" -- has released a new single called "Little Miss Obsessive." The song features backing vocals from Tom Higgenson of the Plain White T's.

Obviously a lot of people really dislike Ashlee Simpson, and they're going to have a lot of ammo from this song. Ashlee Simpson, Plain White T's, a catchy hook, a title that sounds like a Spindoctors B-side... there's a lot for haters to work with here. Personally I'm excited about Ashlee's pending rejuvenation (penciled in for Spring/Summer '08) because I've been saying for months that her new CD is going to win over some of the naysayers. Don't get me wrong, I don't care about her career, I just want to be proven right. I was going to post this earlier, but I got caught up doing more important stuff and decided "screw it." Then Pixie found out I was going to post this and said that if I ever posted an Ashlee Simpson story on the site, she would post a comment that was one of the most horrible and offensive things on the Internet. So here we are. I'm waiting, Pix.

[PS - If the record label takes this down, just do a YouTube search. If you care.]

Not That She's An Attention Whore or Anything....

With Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah" no longer in constant rotation anywhere and everywhere you go, it seems Delilah DiCrescenzo has decided to go on a date with Tom Higgenson. I mean, it's not like she's aiming for the Olympics, continued fame, and lucrative sponsorships or anything like that....

I wouldn't be quite so critical, but for the fact that they met about five years ago, and she repeatedly said she had no interest in him. But wow! Feelings seem to have changed -- now that Tom has two Grammy Award nominations [Best Pop Performance By A Duo/Group and Song of the Year]. He invited her to the awards ceremony, she's agreed to go on a date with him. At the Grammy Awards. Not that she needs a big to-do when it comes to her dates.

I wonder if Tom has to rent a horse drawn carriage and train some birds to keep her dress from dragging on the floor, as well.... To be safe, he may want to do both.

When asked about the date by USA Today, Tom said, "I don't think it'll be awkward, but it'll be interesting. I've never been on a first date that has been this high-profile."

And he probably won't be again, because let's face it -- she's using him to go to the Grammy Awards.

My Mom Likes the Plain White T's

The Plain White T's are still riding the success of the hit song "Hey There Delilah," but the band has already begun working on a new album. Singer Tom Higgenson says he has 25-30 songs written, and you'll definitely see some "Delilah"-esque acoustic ballads. Higgenson tells Billboard:

We've always had acoustic songs on our albums. Those are some of my favorite songs to write and some of the band's best songs. Now that 'Delilah' was so successful, we won't be as afraid to include a few more of those on the next album.

You can't fault the guy for sticking to what works. In a related story, my mom called me yesterday and asked, "Who sings that 'Hey Delilah' song?" Then she asked me to get her the CD. I don't know if it was ever cool to like that song, per se, but now I can say with 100% certainly that it's not. Sorry, Plain White T's, but "Delilah" had a good run, and now it's time to obsess over another Ivy League gymnast. Have you considered Brown's Jessica Pestronk? "Hello There Jessica" has a nice ring to it.

Even The Plain White T's Are Tired Of The Plain White T's
At this point, it's tough to not be sick of the Plain White T's song "Hey There Delilah." The song was a monster hit this summer, and gained constant airplay on radio, TV, online, at the supermarket, and everywhere else with the capability to play music. It even knocked Rihanna's "Umbrella" off its perch at the top of the charts, which was no easy task.
