For fun, I made this a three-way competition, though I'm pretty sure nobody is going to pick the last-minute "oh wow, I had no idea these guys covered this song" addition.

Dinosaur Jr. did their cover years ago, and it was officially released by the band. AFI, meanwhile, did their cover as a part of an MTV tribute to The Cure. We're dealing with very different covers -- Dinosaur Jr not only makes the song their own, and AFI tries to stay as true to the original as possible. I mean, Davey is even singing as much like Robert Smith as he possibly can.

 

So, I hand it over to you, the people. Which cover reigns supreme? AFI or Dinosaur Jr?

I'm having a hard time picking one. On one hand, I used to listen to the Dinosaur Jr. one all the time when I was in high school, and have always been a fan of the band. On the other hand, AFI is one of my favorite bands and I bet performing that cover for The Cure probably meant the world to them. I think I'm giving it to Dinosaur Jr., myself, but it's by a nose, if that.
