Today in Emo & Punk, 11.21.07 Edition

It's the day before Thanksgiving and here in New York, it's cool and rainy. After work, I have to secure my headphones to my head with superglue, immerse myself in the new Say Anything album -- which I have listened to pretty much non-stop since it came out -- and face the supermarket crowds. Why? Because I was too lazy to figure out what to cook for Thanksgiving until today. As such, I would much prefer to catch you guys up with the latest music news.

We start out with bad news: Ellison is the latest band to be victims of the country's roving gangs of band thieves. The band's trailer was stolen. The silver lining is their gear wasn't in the trailer, but they did lose all their merchandise, as well as the trailer. If you're around Cincinnati or Mason, OH, be on the lookout for their trailer. There are photos of it here.

Remember Dashboard Confessional's tour-exclusive covers album, The Wire Tapes Volume 1? Well, if you didn't get it on tour, the band has made it available online for a limited time.

Plain White T's are pandering to the kiddies this December when they will be appearing on some Nickelodeon show called iCarly. They'll be playing themselves. It will probably be pretty amusing, as is always the case when bands end up on kids' shows.

A Thorn For Every Heart has posted some cryptic messages saying they will announce both new music and new members "very soon." They also apologize for keeping people in the dark... but hey. I guess you have to do that sometimes, as a band.

Kevin Call, bassist of Comeback Kid, has announced his current tour with the band will be his last, as life has "called him to go on in a different direction." He wrote a nice post about the band, to say goodbye to the fans. There is no word what the band plans to do, though it is safe to assume they will find a new bassist, what with that being a pretty essential instrument.

thgecastingout, meanwhile, has added a new guitarist by the name of Kevin Spacht. Due to Josh's injuries, he will not be able to tour with the band, but is still a part of the band in terms of writing, recording, and possibly playing some shows when he can. The band says they have three guitarists, as such. They have also added Dana Dillulo as a keyboardist. I'm pretty sure they're competing with the Polyphonic Spree for number of members at this point; do they need someone who plays tambourine?

And... that's what's going on right now. Happy Thanksgiving and stuff!

Emo & Punk Thanksgiving
I'll be honest: Thanksgiving isn't the world's most exciting holiday. It's nice to pause and be thankful for the good in life, but at the same time, it's kind of focused on people gorging themselves with food, for the most part. Nonetheless, I was dying to know what emo and punk bands do to celebrate [or to not celebrate] the holiday, and started asking around.

Let's just say my day spent cooking for my boyfriend and his mother, drinking cheap wine, and slipping my dog some human food will be pretty boring comparatively, because I don't get to be on tour or record a new album like these guys do. Want to find out what Schoolyard Heroes, A Day To Remember, 1997, Four Letter Lie, and Innerpartysystem are doing this Thanksgiving -- and what they are thankful for? >>read more.

It's a rainy day here in New York, and my head is throbbing from some minor surgery. As an interesting side note, the fact that my head is wrapped in gauze went unnoticed by my co-workers, with one of them going so far as to say, "oh, I just thought that was an emo headband." That might be the funniest thing that anyone has ever said to me. And with that, here's your daily dose of what's going on:

Gym Class Heroes have collaborated with pop star Kelly Rowland, who in my world, is best known for getting taken out by my horror movie hero, Freddy Krueger. There will be a video for the song, which is called "Daylight."

In the "well, that didn't take long" department: Jonny Craig, who left Dance Gavin Dance earlier this month, after a less than stellar performance at the Saints & Sinners festival, has joined a new band, Emarosa, as singer.

Cobra Starship's headlining tour, dubbed the "Really Really Ridiculously Good Looking Tour," and also featuring The Cab, Metro Station, and We The Kings has been announced. It kicks off November 16th, 2008 in Poughkeepsie, NY, and runs through early March, also wrapping up in New York. The full list of dates can be found here.

There are a bunch of new releases today: NOFX have They've Actually Gotten Worse Live, Taking Back Sunday is bringing the CD/DVD combo back with Louder Now: Part Two, and the trio of Fueled By Ramen re-releases from Paramore, Cute is What We Aim For, and Gym Class Heroes will be hitting stores today. Also of note: Anberlin's Lost Songs, Copeland's Dressed Up an In Line, and Nirvana's Unplugged in New York.

And that's what I have for you right now. I'm still a bit confused by the Fueled By Ramen re-releases -- considering Paramore is still on the Billboard 200 with the original release of Riot!, will they end up there for both versions? I guess we'll see....

Clips of the new My Chemical Romance Song

Finally! Someone snagged some decent quality footage of the new My Chemical Romance song the band has been playing live. Reportedly, Gerard has been a bit less coy about the title, and said it's called "Stay," which makes sense since the song clearly opens with that word. But I'll bet he changes it eventually. And we'll bitch. Much like he said we would, at the Hoboken show last week.

Also, today is an awesome day, not only because it is Halloween but because Frank Iero was born today, making the world a far more beautiful place. And I don't even mean that in a shallow way [well, not 100%, anyway]... I mean it because his contributions to music are awesome. See: My Chemical Romance, Pencey Prep, Leathermouth....

This song is freaking awesome. I really can't wait for them to record it and release it -- maybe it will be on the official DVD next year?
Today In Punk Rock, 10/30/07 Edition

Ah, the trials and tribulations of having a pretty serious illness. I spent the whole day getting groped, prodded, and ultimately, having more blood sucked out of me than I would have if I had met Dracula at a morgue at sunset. But enough on that... it's time to catch up on punk rock news.

Paste magazine, which was pretty cool on its own, decided to become punk fucking rock and "pull a Radiohead." Although they note that subscriptions normally cost $19.99 per year, for the next two weeks, they're offering a pay what you want subscription rate. You can get the details here.

... I'd just like to say that I wholeheartedly support all goods and services costing what you think they are worth. My rent would go down -- significantly -- but my therapist would see some of that money, because she does a great job. And I'd have a kick-ass car like my sister does -- she has one of those ones you can plug a guitar into, while I have a 1990 Nissan. Though mine has some sweet stickers on it.

The Dillinger Escape Plan has released yet another song off their upcoming album, Ire Works. The song, "Horse Hunter," features the world's worst aspiring UFC fighter, Brent Hinds of Mastodon. Here's hoping he keeps his day job, and here's where you can hear the new song.

paramore Have you ever thought, "yeah, I like Paramore just fine, but I really, really wish they had become a string quartet instead of a pop punk band?" You're in luck.

No, don't ask me to explain why that exists. I don't know.

However, if you want to know why there is a huge photo of Paramore right here? That's easy.

Because....

Haley...

Williams...

is...

hot...

and as the resident chick, I have not been able to convince the boys she should make Daily Music Hotness... yet. Though they're coming around on her....

Hey, did you guys know there is bad stuff going on in Darfur? Because there is. Apparently, November 10th is the date that bands all over will be donating a bunch of money from their shows to the cause. Not surprisingly, Fall Out Boy is involved... but other bands include The Academy Is..., Armor For Sleep, Coheed & Cambria, NOFX, Gym Class Heroes, Cute Is What We Aim For, Say Anything, Hellogoodbye, and many others. It's a pretty kick-ass list, all in all.

Morrissey has chosen a band that in no way plays to his ego to replace Kristeen Young as the opening act on his remaining US tour dates. Girl In A Coma will now be supporting. Let's hope they're better than Young, who my best friend described as "a tragedy," and that they have no view whatsoever on Morrissey's oral sex skills -- good or bad.

Finally, don't forget to make fun of the Sex Pistols on "The Tonight Show" this fine evening. Quick poll: who is worse? The Sex Pistols, Jay Leno, or Stuttering John?

Being that it's the night before Halloween, I am going to settle in with my brand-new Thursday CD/DVD [it's on sale at Best Buy for $11.99, by the way], and some Godiva pumpkin truffles that you can only get at this time of year. I am also going to play "the cancer card" [it's a joke!] to try and get my boyfriend to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas with me before I hide away in the bedroom to watch the season premiere of "Nip/Tuck." Because this is what I do.

Tomorrow, I will be writing articles for you guys while wearing a full zombie costume. Because that, too, is what I do. Happy Halloween!

Halloween Week Videos #2: Nightmare Before Christmas
Fact: The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of the best movies ever made, if not the best movie ever made. As such, here are a bunch of fan-made videos for the soundtrack songs that were covered by popular bands, in honor of Halloween, which is tomorrow.

Marilyn Manson - "This is Halloween"

Fall Out Boy - "What's This?"

Panic! At the Disco - "This Is Halloween"

She Wants Revenge - "KIdnap the Sandy Claws"

Halloween is tomorrow... are you ready?
Pete Wentz is Broken, But Badass
So, yesterday, I found a video of Fall Out Boy performing at the VooDoo Music Festival. What I did not find, however, was video of Pete Wentz breaking the bone that connects his shin to his foot. It sounds horribly painful and looks even worse, however... Pete will continue on the band's tour and not miss any shows. You have to respect that on some level.

Sum 41 has canceled all their remaining tour dates they had planned for the time being, due to singer/guitarist Deryck Whibley's injured back.

Tickets for the possible one-off Finch reunion show in California went on sale today.

Meanwhile, Greeley Estates has signed with Science Records in the US, as well as with Ferret Music for international releases. The band is currently in the studio working on their new album.

On December 3rd, Muse will be releasing a DVD of their Wembley Stadium concert earlier this year. It will come in three packages: a single DVD, a DVD and CD, and a collector's edition DVD and CD with postcards. I don't really do Xmas, but I do accept gifts, and I like special edition box sets. Just saying.

The Hives' song "Fall Is Just Something That Grown-Ups Invented" has turned up in a pretty creepy-looking promo for Cartoon Network. But maybe it's just me. The song is good. Too bad they're not involved with Adult Swim, which I quite enjoy. Especially "Lucy, The Daughter of the Devil," which is the best new show in a while. ANYWAY... video:

The Buzzcocks will be releasing a live album, available in the UK, on November 26th. The album was recorded at the Forum in London, during their 2006 30th anniversary tour. The band will also be touring in the UK from November 23rd through the 30th, to support this album.

New Found Glory will be appearing on Fuse's "The Sauce" tonight at 6pm EST. Check your local listings.

Asa Dawson, formerly the singer of The Junior Varsity, has joined What's Fair as a drummer.

The Sex Pistols will be on "The Tonight Show" tomorrow night, 10/30. Plan ahead and watch the old men make fools of themselves on national television. Me? I'll be basking in the afterglow of the first episode of the new season of "Nip/Tuck."

Video: Fall Out Boy Covers The Killers
I'm pretty sure this was shot by the director of The Blair Witch Project, and the sound isn't the best ever [way to sell the video, pixie] but you can also get a feel for Fall Out Boy's really great cover of "Mr. Brightside," which they played at the VooDoo Music Festival this past weekend in New Orleans.
