Sony BMG has announced plans to release an album titled Whitney Houston: The Ultimate Collection on October 30th. This will be Whitney's first release since her 2003 Christmas album. During that off-time, she has gone through many well-publicized personal troubles.

However, let's focus on the music. You probably have to be 25 or older to remember this, but there was a time when Whitney Houston completely dominated the airwaves. Back in 1992, she had three of the biggest songs of the year at the same time (thanks to The Bodyguard soundtrack, which in addition to going 17x platinum, also ruined Kevin Costner). It's tough to explain this if you didn't experience it, but you couldn't go anywhere without hearing Whitney Houston. Think of how inescapable Fergie's last 3 singles have been, then imagine they were all that popular at the exact same time. I'ver never seen that kind of overexposure since. It was ridiculous. Thank God I was only 11 years old at the time or I might have gone insane. But my sanity aside, you have to give Whitney credit for all that success. And keep in mind, this happened after she was already a huge star.

In other words, this album should be a hit.

Onto a funnier note: While researching this album, I found out an interesting fact. In 2002, Saddam Hussein used Whitney's "I Will Always Love You" as his campaign song. True story. This is funny for so many reasons that I don't think I even need to explain it. Saddam won his campaign and got something like 99% of the vote. That was mostly due to him murdering his opposition, but I like to think Whitney Houston played a small part as well.
