Here are 7 tracks that have been getting heavy rotation at the Shoutmouth office this week.
certifiedmatt:
"Last Night (Remix)" - Yung Joc, The Game, Big Boi, Rich Boy and Keyshia Cole
This remix ditches the Castlevania synthesizer theatrics of the original, and I’m not sure that I completely agree with that move, but it does pose some interesting questions. Would Yung Joc be more tolerable if he was an awful R&B singer instead of a mediocre rapper? Will all the verses on the next Outkast album chastise 80s babies? Can Keyshia Cole get any better? And, how awesome is that going to be?
NeutralMilk:
"No Pussy Blues" - Grinderman
In Nick Cave's latest effort, he gets as raw as he ever has before. This song (from the title on down) is no exception.

"Pioneers"
- From Autumn to Ashes
This is from the new From Autumn to Ashes album, Holding a Wolf By the Ears. Although many people worried about this album falling short after the sudden departure of the band's lead singer Ben, the replacement -- former drummer Francis, took the band to a new level. While I always liked From Autumn to Ashes, I'm in love with this album, which is an early forerunner for my favorite of the year.
TomZ:
"Christie Road" - Green Day
Billie Joe Armstrong is volunteering with Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans this week, building homes for hurricane victims. For that, he gets my pick for song of the week. Also, my dad was supposed to be in New Orleans work with HFH this week, but because of his job he had to cancel the trip last-minute. My dad could be hanging out with Billie Joe right now, but instead he’s stuck in an office. How much does that suck? Oh well, not like my dad knows Green Day anyway. Here is “Christie Road” off the Kerplunk LP. Underrated song, underrated album.
petekennedy:
"The Fez" - Steely Dan
This disco train is not stopping. The Steely Dan duo of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker have had their highs and lows. They won their first Grammy for their 2000 album Two Against Nature, but I only get down with their older stuff. The good news is that they're touring this summer, and generally play a lot of their vintage material live. This track is from their 1976 album The Royal Scam which features the similarly-awesome 'Kid Charlemagne'.
[PS - Happy Birthday, Mom!]
iDrew:
"Volcano" - Damien Rice
Damien Rice is an Irish folk singer who has infiltrated radio here in the US. Chances are you've heard at least one of his songs during a heart-wrenching prime time TV moment this year. The song "Volcano" is from his first album, and prominently features a cello and the tortured, pristine vocals of Lisa Hannigan. When I was a busker on the cold streets of Boston, I would play this song often.
My tremendously affable Irish friend says this track is "primal". I couldn't agree more.
DirtySouthMouth:
"You Think You're a Man" - The Vaselines
Thanks to Kurt Cobain's constant campaigning and Sub Pop's compilation, these dudes weren't lost forever. This is a Divine cover and not my favorite Vaselines tune, but Frances McKee puts such a great spin on the vocals. Also, how can you not love the cheap drum machine?
