Chamillionaire got a little risky with his choice of a first single for his upcoming album Ultimate Victory. After his breakout success with "Ridin" last year, "Hip Hop Police" risks typecasting Cham as "that rapper who is always complaining about the cops" and it features a cameo from Slick Rick, despite this not being 1988. It still completely works.
As we reported last week, the Houston native went in the Eddie Murphy direction with the video for the track and plays three different characters, including a newscaster, a cop and himself. It might be a little broad, but hey, this is one of the better rap videos I've seen in a while. I mean, who does storytelling in hip hop anymore?
Also: Slick Rick looks pretty authentic as a cop and for some reason that just really makes me laugh.
The story continues (sort of) in the video for the album's second single, "Evening News," which also premiered last night.
Again, this isn't exactly nuanced debate we’re dealing with here, but it’s certainly refreshing to see this sort of thing on TV. Let’s just see if anyone plays it.
Now comes the part where you offer up your opinion of the videos. Isn't the Internet awesome?
