Everyone's favorite pedophile, Gary Glitter, who has been in prison in Vietnam since March 2006, is hoping he will be released next week on Independence Day, when the government grants select prisoners amnesty. It's surprising that Vietnam has a system like this, but not nearly as shocking as the fact that Gary Glitter was arrested for "obscene acts with two girls." Girls?

The 62-year old singer's lawyer made a statement on his behalf, saying he would like to return home to the UK. As for his predictions, the lawyer, Le Than Kinh, said "I am hopeful. I believe punishment has now been sufficient." He also may or may not have muttered, "and we'd really like this nutbar out of our country, ya know?"

Life won't be so great for Mr. Glitter in the UK, though. Due to this arrest, as well as a 1999 arrest for child porn discovered on his computer, as well as the fact that he's permanently banned from Cambodia for suspected child abuse, he'll be put on the sex offender registry upon returning home and have to live with the restrictions placed on someone who makes that "prestigious" list. I'd say I feel bad for him, but at the same time, who the hell told him to go have sex with kids? That's about as screwed up as a person can get, so... tough crap, dude.

Not surprisingly, his musical career and legacy have been somewhat harmed by all this sex with kids stuff, as well, but there you have it. He could be freed next week. Either that, or you guys [and your kids] are safe for another year, as his actual sentence is up next August.

Note to the world: see that picture? Is there any reason why anyone was surprised that he was some sort of screwed up deviant?
