In a gossip story that is far too juicy to be true, but is being reported by notable New York newspaper The Daily News, all of Fall Out Boy is annoyed they didn't get nominated for a Grammy Award -- not just Pete Wentz. However, according to "sources" -- and you know how reliable they are, the band is blaming Pete Wentz' accessory of the year, Ashlee Simpson.

 

Straight from the paper's gossip page, which is quoting an ever-reliable source of news, a UK tabloid:

"Grammy voters are fed up with Ashlee after she was caught lip-synching," a pal tells OK! mag. "Her relationship with Pete has definitely affected public opinion of the band. The guys in FOB are furious — they think everything Ashlee touches is poison, and they really want her to stop touching Pete!"

Well, I'm with them on the whole "stop touching Pete" thing, if only because it tends to interfere with my best dreams. So is this true? I give it a 50/50 chance, though Pete will make a post about how that is not remotely the case and/or he will tell MTV nothing could be further from the truth.

 

Things that make me think, "hey, this could be true":

01. Remember when Victoria Asher said she worked on a song with Patrick Stump and Ashlee Simpson? I think Patrick lost his hat in the mad dash to disavow having anything to do with that song. I'm going to speculate it has nothing to do with Victoria's talents....

 

02. If you think about it, you rarely see Ashlee with the rest of the band, just Pete. Separate from the band. Could just be that the happy couple wants alone time, but why would the band totally split up post-Video Music Awards, even?

 

03. Okay, this is just a guess, but there is no way in hell Ashlee Simpson is not annoying. In a "God, I just want to bitchslap you across the face so hard if you don't just shut your girlie yap!" sort of way. She seems high maintenance, like one of the beasties on Sex & The City, only younger, making her even more annoying.

 

04. I have actually had more than one person tell me she's changed their opinion of the band. Including male friends of mine who know nothing about the band. As lately as last night, when a conversation about Pete Wentz led to me being asked how I could still believe in anything he wrote when he dates someone as plastic as Ashlee Simpson.

 

Things that make me think, "hey, this is probably made up":

 

01. It's in The Daily News.

 

02. It's The Daily News quoting a British tabloid.

 

03. They cited "a pal."

 

04. Did I mention the British tabloid?

 

Like I said, I'm sure Pete is already working on a reply to this that says the band and Ashlee just love each other, much like his statement about how ex-Baptist minister Joe Simpson just loves his daughter dating a quasi-bisexual, formerly suicidal boy in eyeliner. But you know... there could be an inkling of truth to this....
