As promised, the band is currently recording some new songs to go on their b-sides collection due later this year. And in a surprising turn of events, the band has brought Lou Reed in to sing on one of the new songs.
Brandon spoke to the NME about the collaboration, saying:
The song was calling for a duet and his voice was just right. The sentiment of the song is very him [Reed].The song they worked on together is called "Tranquilizer," and Flowers said:
There's a desperation to it. It's one of our more depressing songs, but there's always a light at the end of the tunnel.
Sounds nice, I think. Should be interesting, at the very least.
As for the reason behind the compilation, Flowers noted that for US fans, many of the songs would be new, considering they were b-sides to UK singles. He also added that he quite liked similar compilations from Oasis and The Smiths, before saying, "and anyway, I'm Brandon Flowers. I can do whatever I want."*
*Note: he did not really say that at all.
