Bun B. and Sean Kington are tearing it up in the ringtone space right now.  The That’s Gangsta ringtone is number 23 on the charts right now.  Not bad.  It’s not a bad song and probably would make a really great ringtone.  It’s got a pretty heavy catchy baseline that will be great for people that like to chill to hip hop or to go out and dance to it.

Got to be honest though, rap names are getting weirder and weirder.  Coolio is kind of strange. Dr. Dre, The RZA, Snoop Dogg… all are kind of weird.  But Bun B sounds like bugs would call himself if he were a rapper.  Judging from the music the core bugs bunny audience wouldn’t be allowed to listen since they are under the age of 14, so who is the name for? 

I have to say, though, at least some of his music is uplifting rather than just about killing people or smoking up.  You’re Everything mentions a lot of different rappers in a positive light, which is extremely rare for a rap song.  Most of the time rap songs that mention other rappers are only mentioning the ones who are actually in the song or those that they despise.

At any rate the That’s Gangsta ringtone is doing well as it should be.  I expect we’ll all hear more about Bun B in the future.
