Chris Brown has come out on the scene and just taken control over the R&B scene.  His music has a general cleanliness too it that makes it friendly for younger audiences.  It also has a tendency to strike on issue that teens and tweens are starting to relate to.

This combination of factors gives him a wide spread appeal, and so it’s not really surprising that the Take You Down ringtone is very popular.  The biggest audience for customizing mobile handsets is the young teen demographic.

His music isn’t offensive, and so parents won’t get mad at their children for having a Chris Brown ringtone (though, if they didn’t know they were downloading it the charges associated might make them less-than-happy).

When you consider music of any of the past 4 or decades it’s interesting to note that the most popular new work is going to target the teen and young adult demographic.  Just as the Beatles reached young girls, Chris Brown reaches the same group.  What does come as a surprise, then, is how many older songs make popular ringtones.  Mission Impossible makes a more popular ringtone than does any Chris Brown Ringtone.
