Sting's lyrics were blasted for being filled with "mountainous pomposity (and) cloying spirituality." Yikes. I bet they can't wait for the new record!
While we're on the subject though, why hold back Blender? Sure, Sting can be pompous, but what about the times when his lyrics make no sense at all? He is, after all, also a master of
nonsensicalcollectionsofwordsthatdon'tmeananythingwhengroupedtogether and can sometimes, lack any plausible imagery whatsoever. Like, how about:
I wake in pain
I dream of love
As time runs through my hand.
Riiiight. If he's awake, why's dude still dreaming?
He's also swift to include the occasional vague glimpses of new age-sounding romance:
Take this heartache
Of obsidian darkness
And fold my darkness
Into your yellow light
With lyrics like these, Stingster was able to keep ahead of Neil Peart, Scott Stapp, Noel Gallagher and Dan Fogelberg, who round out the top five, respectively.
