To promote their partnership with Apple, Starbucks will be giving away "Song of the Day" cards from October 2nd to November 7th.

It is being reported that 10,000 U.S. stores will hand out about 1.5 million cards per day.  That's only 150 cards per store a day, which means that a few hundred moms and dads are going to be pissed off during their afternoon coffee run.

Some of the artists that will be included in the promotion are Starbucks artists Paul McCartney and Joni Mitchell, as well as Joss Stone, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Annie Lennox, and Band of Horses. One of these is not like the other...Band of Horses? How did they get involved in this snoozefest?

The first free song will be Bob Dylan's "Joker Man." Here he is performed the tune on Letterman back in the d:

In other totally exciting Starbucks music news, the coffee shop will begin (also on October 2nd) to sell iTunes digital release cards that provide access to specific albums. The first two LPs to get this treatment will be KT Tunstall's Drastic Fantastic and Eddie Vedder's soundtrack to Into the Wild.
