Alright, so here are my opinions, and feel free to add or disagree:
-The ones I definitely agree with are Jet/Iggy Pop, Fergie/J.J. Fad and Akon/R. Kelly. The Fergie song is particularly bad. I've posted a video of J.J. Fad below in case you're not familiar.
-The rest I would consider either a stretch or completely unfounded.
-I don't count the Offspring/Beatles or Sublime/Beatles because I'm pretty certain those were done on purpose, as an homage to the Beatles, and therefore it's not really a rip-off per se.
-Unless you grew up in a cave, you're probably influenced by some sort of music. If you get into music, those influences will undoubtedly shape your style. That doesn't mean you're ripping someone off.
-I've heard the Green Day/Bryan Adams thing a bunch of times and I've always thought it was an outrageous claim. "Jesus of Suburbia" is one of the best songs of the decade and "Summer of '69" is lame. The Pearl Jam/Zeppelin one is a huge stretch as well.
-Others that could've made the list, in no particular order:
1) Queen "Under Pressure" & Vanilla Ice (the undisputed biggest rip-off of all-time)
2) Tom Petty "American Girl" & The Strokes "Last Night" (just the opening)
3) Puddle of Mudd "She Hates Me" & Nirvana "Rape Me" (I call the POM song "Nirvana by Puddle of Mudd")
4) Huey Lewis & the Ghostbusters theme
5) Stone Temple Pilots "Wicked Garden" & Creed "What If"
6) Weezer "Beverly Hills" & that Steve Miller song
7) Tom Petty "Last Dance w/ Mary Jane" & Chili Peppers "Dani California"
8) Silverchair "Leave Me Out" & Black Sabbath "Sweat Leaf"
(I don't really think any of these were intentional, except Vanilla Ice, which was horrible.)
Here is that J.J. Fad video. Tell me this isn't "Fergalicious." Also, feel free to leave comments with anything I've forgotten.
