When Rod Stewart was 13, he wanted a model railroad set, but his father bought him a guitar instead. That worked out pretty well, considering that Rod Stewart the 62-year old professional model railroader would probably not be a millionaire dating a supermodel.
But even though he chose a career in music, Stewart has always been a huge fan of model railroads, and this December, he will reach the Mecca of model railroading when one of his creations graces the cover of Model Railroader magazine.
If that's not enough, the December issue will also feature MR's "Guide to Wireless Throttles." Talk about saving all your A-material for the end of the year!
(Although, in the interest of full disclosure, I must admit, I've always been more of a World's Greatest Hobby guy. WGH 4 Life!)
Rod said -- and I'm not making this up -- that the MR cover would "mean more to me than the cover of Rolling Stone." Though, in fairness, he'll change his tune once Model Railroader starts giving his miniature cityscapes a 3-star rating and bumping him off the cover in favor of hipper, younger model railroaders.
So, if you like Rod Stewart, or you're interested in building breathtaking mountains on a Z-scale layout, pick up the December issue of Model Railroader.
And yes, Rod, we do think this is sexy. Not as sexy as, say, Tim Tebow's girlfriend...
...but sexy nonetheless.
