Radiohead is reportely on the verge of signing with ATO Records, the indie label run by Dave Matthews' manager. ATO would release Radiohead's latest effort, In Rainbows, on CD format. In case you've been living in a cave, In Rainbows was sold/given away online a couple weeks ago, and apparently it moved quite a few copies.
So how do indie fans feel about the Almightly Radiohead signing to the same label as the Indie Anti-Christ, Dave Matthews?
(If this deal goes through, Radiohead could very well be working with Dave Matthews himself.)
I went to the indie capital of the universe -- Pitchfork -- to find out. Here's what they had to say:
"Well, at least it ain't Starbucks."
Many major labels, including Warner Brothers and Columbia, had been fighting to sign the band, but it turns out Radiohead is pretty popular and doesn't need a major label backing them. ATO might actually run into a problem, in that everyone already has In Rainbows, and many people don't like paying for stuff they already have. Hopefully Uncle Dave can help out with some new marketing solutions.
In other news, NME reports that Radiohead's OK Computer album was inspired by Thom Yorke's inability to use a computer during his final semester at Exeter University. If being terrible with computers makes you record an amazing album, I need to get my grandma in the studio ASAP.
