While some sources are reporting that Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson are engaged, others are denying it.
The pro-engagement sites, like this one, also claim that Simpson is pregnant. Allegedly Wentz proposed on July 7th -- the same day as the Live Earth concerts -- and Simpson is currently carrying his baby.
Said an ever-reliable inside source:
Ashlee wasn't expecting it at all, it was a total surprise. Pete whipped out a big engagement ring, dropped down on one knee, and asked Ashlee to be his bride. Ashlee says it was romantic, sexy - and that she said yes right away.
Other sites are denying these rumors. SAWF News calls both the pregnancy and the engagement rumors "absolutely untrue."
What is the truth? It may be a while before we find out. Judging by the tabloid coverage of Christina Aguilera, a celebrity pregnancy can go on for anywhere from 2 to 5 years (in fact, by the time Aguilera's alleged baby is born, it will already be able to ride a bike). We'll just have to wait and see what happens with Wentz and Simpson. One thing is for sure, however: if these two do have a child, it will probably set a record for "Most Times An Infant Is Booed By a Random Stranger." Stay tuned.
