Pete Wentz has never been particularly political, but he's decided he can't sit quietly for this election. As such, he's going to be throwing a fundraiser for the candidate of his choice, Barack Obama. He'll be holding it on Tuesday, January 22nd, in Illinois. The full details can be found here.
I have to be honest... that shirt has made both TomZ and me giggle a bit this morning. I just keep imagining Pete sitting at a computer, playing with PhotoShop, trying to figure out the best place to put his little bat logo. It's a cute image, at least for me.
But then I think about Barack Obama. At some point, he'll probably see/get one of the limited edition shirts. I'm trying to imagine his face. Probably somewhere between "amused" and "horrified."
That said, I have to give credit to Pete. He decided he had to take action after New Hampshire's primary, and try to do something to help the candidate he really believes in. And seeing as I, personally, thought New Hampshire was a debacle on every level, I'm glad that Pete stepped up to encourage people.
Of course, TomZ managed to deflate my sense of pride in Pete rather easily, when we had this conversation:
TomZ: "Yeah, but has any musician ever really helped a politician?
me: "I guess... but in this case, Pete's fans will do pretty much whatever he says. I mean, they listen to rap, when they say they hate rap, because Gym Class Heroes are on his label. This could encourage them to go vote."
TomZ: "They're not old enough to vote."
Not much I can say to that, being the world's oldest Fall Out Boy fan and all...
Anyway, if you're in/around Chicago and have $75 to spare, here's something to do next week.
