Due to people's amazing ability to read one thing and process it as something else, Peter Hook has once again had to clarify that New Order is broken up, and no, they're not getting back together. The trouble started when he said in an interview with Tony Wilson's son, "In honour of your father, I'd do anything."

In the Manchester Evening News, Oliver Wilson, son of the late Tony Wilson, interviewed Peter Hook and asked about a possible reunion at a tribute show. Hook responded, "Seeing as we have just split up, pretty slim." Oliver pressed on, asking if he would do it if everybody else joined in. Hook responded, "In honour of your father, I'd do anything."

Cue the "New Order Reunion!!" rumors.

Peter Hook turned to his MySpace to set the record straight:

This means I would sell the popcorn, take the tickets, sweep up after, play bass in New Order/Joy Division/Crawling Chaos. I do wish that people would read things properly before mouthing off. I am definitely going to have to learn to keep my big fat mouth shut (but I blame the bloody press!). And as Tony would say "Fuck em!"

I can see how people are taking the end of New Order pretty hard, but let's be real: 27 years is a really good run for a band. Let the man have some peace. It's pretty clear that Hooky, and the rest of the band, owe a great debt of gratitude to Tony Wilson; of course they'd do anything in his honor. Not that anything to that effect has been confirmed, either, so let's not start that rumor, okay?

I know we live in "fast times" and all, but doesn't a band have to be officially broken up for more than a month or two before the reunion rumors start?
