The singer appeared in court this morning, as scheduled, for a sentencing related to a May arrest for drugs. However, after banning the singer from London, the judge postponed further sentencing so Pete could continue rehab.

Unfortunately, seeing as Pete has been living in London, this has effectively left the singer homeless. The judge suggested he stay with family, however, that also won't work for him. Speaking to the NME, Pete said, "I can't stay with my mum, not while she's with my dad. I'm not quite sure where I'm staying. Are there any NME readers outside London who want to put me up?"

There's this part of me that says, "hey, New York is outside London, and we have an extra futon at my house, why not?" And then there's a huge part of me that says, "who in their right mind would put Pete Doherty up? I can barely keep up with the responsibilities of a dog, much less a Pete Doherty." [Thus, once again, proving to myself that I maintain some sort of sanity.]

Mick Whitnall, who was also at the sentencing, simply said, "We didn't know what to expect so it's a bit of a relief." Much of the band's relief is due to Doherty being granted permission to perform at a festival in Portugal next week, as well as the V Festival on August 18th and 19th.

As for what happens next month, it's hard to say -- but assuming Pete keeps up with his rehab, he should probably remain with some sort of warning. And he may stay in line, given that Babyshambles has a new album coming out this autumn and a huge arena tour in November, as well.

Good luck, Pete. I may not be able to put you up, but I'm pulling for you.

I've always been a sucker for tragic poets.
