Patrick is seeing a lot of changes around him -- noting FOB's collaborations with Jay-Z and Babyface, Justin Timberlake on "urban" stations, and "a woman and a black guy" running for president as evidence of said revolution.
Interestingly, Fall Out Boy, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton are all far from quiet -- but okay.
Patrick told Wisconsin paper The Post Crescent, "I think that something is happening in American culture right now. A lot of those big divides are starting to break down and it's really coming down to substance. I'm really happy to be making music now."
The article noted the more soul, funk, and R&B elements of Infinity on High: "I think at some point I started taking it serious. I was a drummer and that was what I was known for, and then I kind of found myself. We had a platinum, or whatever, record with me as a singer. I guess I'm a singer, and I guess I should start taking this seriously."
So there you go. Loud, visible people are having a quiet revolution, and Patrick's voice sounds different on the album because he "started taking it seriously."
I kind of wish he'd stayed a little less serious... is it okay to say that?
