I was hoping it would be something badass like "I discovered Satan," but believe it or not, it was because drummer Daniel Davision can "no longer see Norma Jean as a ministry" and can't carry on. He's still hardcore Christian, the band is still hardcore Christian... they just aren't hardcore Christian enough for him. Wow.
Both Daniel and the band have admitted they "grew apart" in many ways. Daniel clarified, saying:
As many of you know, Norma Jean is considered a "Christian band", and it is in fact made up of 5 guys who are all Christians. This is something that is a huge part of my life, and something that I take very seriously. Recently I have come to the point in my life where I no longer see Norma Jean as a ministry, and for me to continue in the band, saying that it is, would in my opinion, be wrong. I am not leaving the band on bad terms with any of the guys, but there are differences between us, both personal and spiritual, that I felt were too great for me continue on with, or ignore any longer.
The band also posted a bit about the departure of the drummer, noting they would carry on as a band:
We are definitely going to miss Daniel and we wish him the best in whatever he does. We've had such an excellent time with him.
Although Daniel feels like this is no longer a kind of ministry for him... the rest of us feel the exact opposite and we have all been growing in so many ways. We are blessed to be able to do what we love.
Daniel will be finishing the current tour with the band, and while they are going to carry on and plan to write a new album this winter, they are not looking for a new drummer. This means one of three things:
01. They already have a new drummer waiting in the wings
02. They are going to be the first metal band without any drums whatsoever
03. Jesus Christ himself is going to provide the beats for their songs.
I'm going to put my money on number one.
If you need details on the whole thing, head over here.
Daniel will be playing drums with the band until November 7th at the following shows:
