Noel Gallagher, the king of British rock feuds, has recently claimed that Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" is a rip-off of his song "Wonderwall."
Over the years, Noel has made many wild claims and gotten his band into plenty of feuds. But this time, he's coming from a new place. According to Cinemablend.com, the singer mostly takes issue with having to actually hear what Green Day did with his song. Noel was quoted as saying, "They should have the decency to wait until I am dead (before stealing my songs). I, at least, pay the people I steal from that courtesy."
Interesting angle, from an interesting man. Will anything come of it? Noel isn't really the type to bring this to a court of law, as he's generally happy to keep his battles limited to the press and the occasional bottling at a bar. And most importantly: are the two songs all that similar?
Oasis - "Wonderwall"
Green Day - "Boulevard of Broken Dreams"
If you ask me, they're surprisingly close -- a lot more than I'd initially expected. Maybe Noel is less of a crankypants than he's been accused of; it's almost as if he has a valid point here.
