Many people know the NYSE bell quite well.  It is the signal for the start and the end of every day on the stock market here in New York.  I guess a lot of people love to hear the bell, even when they aren’t working, because the NYSE Bell ringtone is one of the most popular in the country.

As of writing, the NYSE Bell ringtone is number 12 on the hot ringtones charts.  That’s not bad for any ringtone.  Everyone below that must be feeling a little silly.  Seriously, it’s more popular than the Sweet Home Alabama Ringtone, the Gasolina Ringtone, and even the more recent I kissed a girl ringtone.

I wonder if having that ringtone while working on the stock exchange is kind of like wearing the t-shirt of the band you’re currently watching live.  Do other brokers say “cool ringtone” while they turn and make fun of you to their money-loving buddies?
