Anthony Lovato, the 26 year old former singer of the now-defunct band Mest, was arrested on Sunday for suspicion of murder. The incident occured in Studio City, a suburb of Los Angeles. The victim, 25 year old Wayne Hughes, was rumored to be dating Lovato's ex-girlfriend, and was described as Lovato's "romantic rival" by PunkBands.com. Police had been called to the woman's apartment on Saturday night when a fight broke out between the two men. However, no arrests were made.
Lovato called police at 8AM Sunday morning, claiming that he had stabbed Hughes with a pocketknife after Hughes punched him. The alleged event took place in the garage of the same apartment complex. Hughes was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
According to police, Lovato was cooperative and surrendered himself.

Now, I would never make light of a murder, as this is a horrible tragedy. But, as a general question, how do you kill someone with a pocketknife? That's got to be an awkward scene. "You slept with my girl!!! I'm gonna kill you, mothafucker!!! Yeah, I got my knife!!!... Oh... shit... that's the nail file... oh, you're gonna get it... dammit, that's a screwdriver... one sec... I swear, you're dead... ah, tweezers??? What the hell, man!!!"
Mest reached the height of its popularity in the early 00's with the single "Jaded (These Years)," which features Benji Madden of Good Charlotte. The band also toured with Aaliyah (??) before breaking up in 2006.
