Now that the Kanye West vs. 50 Cent battle is essentially over, it's time for a new fake feud to emerge.
Mariah Carey and Mary J. Blige have both announced plans to release a new album on November 20th. Let the battle begin!
The music industry (and the entertainment industry as a whole) is a very copycat industry; when something works, you can bet that dozens of others will try it. After the success of both Kanye West's Graduation and 50 Cent's Curtis, it's pretty obvious that the rappers were helped out by their recent "feud." That means you can expect a least six more fake music feuds in the next calendar year.
We all know these feuds are a marketing scheme, but hey, it's good for the music industry, so let's play along. Who will win the battle of Mariah vs. Mary J.? As we learned from Kanye-50, the quality of the albums, and especially the singles, is very important. If all things are equal, then it's basically a crapshoot. Mariah has had more mainstream success, but there are also a bunch of people who absolutely hate her, so anything could happen.
Either way, this is the kind of feuding that should be taking place in the music world. Two heavyweight rappers going head-to-head, or two R&B staples facing off. Remember when the biggest musical feud was Lohan-Duff? Trust me, even if copycats are trying to imitate the success of Kanye-50, this is a good thing. Of course, I can and will rescind this statement next spring when magazines are pushing a Jojo vs. Ashley Tisdale feud.
