The awards ceremony was held tonight in London, and while some of the winners were pretty much a given, there are some pretty surprising choices in there, as well. Newcomers Enter Shikari walked off with three awards, though, and Machine Head snagged two.
[Best International Band]
My Chemical Romance
Note: This band also won this award last year. Yes, they're that good.
[Best British Band]
Lostprophets
Note: This band also won this award last year. I'm pretty surprised they havent had that much success in the US, given the following they have in the UK.
[Best International Newcomer]
Madina Lake
Note: Okay, I can deal with that. These guys could blow up really big, if not this year, in 2008.
[Best British Newcomer]
Gallows
Note: This was a given.
[Best Live Band]
Enter Shikari
Note: This is a shock, as last year's winner, Muse, was also nominated in this category. I can't fathom that Enter Shikairi are a better live band than Muse, but then again, I can't fathom that most bands are a better live band than Muse.
[Best Single]
30 Seconds To Mars "The Kill"
Note: I'm really ambivalent to this band, but people seem to like them. I can't see how this beat My Chemical Romance's "Welcome to the Black Parade."
[Best Album]
Machine Head "The Blackening"
Note: I have no idea how this happened when they were nominated against My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade.
[Best Video]
Fall Out Boy "This Ain't A Scene It's An Arms Race"
Note: Fall Out Boy won this award last year, for "Sugar We're Going Down."
[Best Classic Songwriter]
Deftones
Note: It's kind of scary that Deftones are considered "classic," but Placebo won last year, so I think they play pretty loose with their definition of "classic."
[Spirit of Independence]
Enter Shikari
Note: I honestly don't know anything about this band; what's the big deal with them?
[Hard Rock Hero]
Machine Head
Note: They're the first recipients of this award. I guess they're bigger than I thought.
[Kerrang! Icon]
Nine Inch Nails
Note: This is also a new award. I can see that; Trent is pretty iconic.
[Hall of Fame]
Judas Priest
Note: Okay, I guess that's cool. Last year, Slayer took this.
So that's the Kerrang! awards round-up. Your thoughts?
