At last night's Academy Awards, Jennifer Hudson took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Dreamgirls. Hudson made the typical Oscar acceptance speech, thanking her family and everyone involved with the movie. She also thanked God approximately 47 times.
Though she did not mention "American Idol" in her speech, Hudson did discuss the show in glowing terms with reporters shortly after her win.
"[My victory] says that 'American Idol' is a great platform," she said. "Thank God there is such a thing as 'Idol'. There's many other talents that came before that didn't have a platform to sing, but they allowed us that platform, and for that we can say 'thank you.'"
When a reporter asked Hudson about Britney Spears for no apparent reason, Hudson responded, "And Britney, all I can do is pray for her; that's the best I can do. I don't know what's going on - and it ain't my business."
Hudson, who admits she isn't much of a partier, said that she would attend a couple of the post-Oscar events.
Beyonce, Hudson's Dreamgirls co-star, had some kind words to say: "It's been amazing; it was such a wonderful night, being an African-American actor celebrating with Jennifer Hudson. She brought me to tears. ... It's been a beautiful night."
Hudson responded by saying, "Awww, thanks Beyonce. Hey, we should get a picture of both of us with our Oscars. Oh... wait! You don't have an Oscar!!! What's up now, bitch?!?!?!?!" Alright, she never said that. But did you see the Dreamgirls performance during the Oscars? It looked like Hudson and Beyonce were going to suffer aneurysms trying to one-up each other. And that third girl just stood there in the middle, probably thinking, "umm, I'm just gonna sing a verse toward the end, is that cool?" Hopefully the video will be on YouTube soon.
Dreamgirls was shut out in the category of Best Original Song, for which it had three separate nominations. However, the movie did win the Oscar for Best Sound Mixing.
