I'm pretty sure this is the first time "metal exhaustion and physical
fatigue" is a legitimate excuse, given Andrew McMahon's health issues
and ordeal with cancer. Although five shows have been postponed, two
charity shows -- in support of Dashboard Confessional -- will still go
on as scheduled.
The band's management released the following statement:
Andrew McMahon is suffering from significant mental exhaustion and physical fatigue. After his cancer recovery, he jumped right back into touring and didn't stop for 14 months. The extensive travel has taken a toll on his mind and body - enough so that management believes that it is in his, and his fans', best interest for him to be home so that he can regain his strength. Andrew is very disappointed and wishes to sincerely apologize to the fans, the schools, the promoters, and everyone involved. We hope to make up the dates as early as February 2008 if the schools and promoters will have us. Please understand that in no way does this indicate that Andrew has had a relapse.
Majore respect. Cancer is hell on your mind; it changes everything in your life. And while you kind of have to pick up where you left off and do what you can to return to normalcy, there are tons of doctor appointments, hardships, and just mental stresses that you don't realize you'll be dealing with for years.
As such, the following shows are off:
10/6/07 Mansfield University Mansfield, PA
10/8/07 Indiana University of Pennsylvania Indiana, PA
10/12/07 Ramapo College Mahwah, NJ
10/20/07 Bradley University Peoria, IL
10/21/07 Quinnipiac College Hamden, CT
However, the October 16th and 17th shows in Los Angeles, which is Andrew's home town, will still go on as planned.
Here's hoping Andrew feels better soon; I know that profound exhaustion all too well some days....
