I Am Ghost: Not a Christian Band, Really

Steve Juliano has recently been speaking out about how uncomfortable he was with being remotely associated with the Christian music scene, and -- as I suspected -- notes that recently departed members Kerith and Brian Telestai had a lot to do with that.

In a recent interview, Steve talked about the band's new direction as well as what was wrong:

We still don’t have a clue what we’re supposed to be. With the new stuff that we’re writing, the best I can describe it is aggressive, dark, epic music.

As for the whole Christian thing:

It’s not like we don’t believe in things, we just never believed that’s a good mixture. We were starting to classify in the Christian scene, and it kind of bothered us.

He totally pointed his finger at Brian and Kerith:

There’s four or five dudes who don’t have a devout background, and they did.

 

They were dictating what we were about. We just wanted to have more fun. If I want to say the word ‘fuck’ on stage, or if we want to have a video with some bleeding corpses or something else awesome ... we want to do it because the kids might dig it.

Well, cool. I liked this band before and didn't really realize they had nutters in the mix, to be honest -- but I'm glad they're now more free to do and be what they really want to be.  I'm looking forward to the new material.
