The song still has those important mentions of the amount of money he’s making from rap. And true to the spirit of being obsessed with money, the “I’m Me” ringtone is available for download, and it’s doing quite well on the list of most popular ringtones.
The I’m me ringtone comes in at number 8. Not bad.
One thing I don’t really get is how does the im me ringtone get so high on the list when the song is basically the same thing repeated a few times, with no focus, and a beat you can’t dance to? It’s not a terrible song (as far as pop-hip hop rap goes) but it isn’t great either.
I have a serious question though: are rappers under contractual obligation to mention their record label repeatedly in the majority of their songs? If you didn’t know Lil Wayne was working for Cash Money you’d certainly know it after listening to Im Me. I wonder what it would be like if other genres started doing that. Can you imagine Coldplay randomly slipping “capitol” into the chorus of half of their songs? Hopefully they try it and we can see how that experiment plays out.
