In 1977, Madonna dropped out of the University of Michigan and headed to New York City with only a few dollars in her pocket. The move paid off. By 1983 she had breakthrough hits including "Holiday" and "Borderline," and was well on her way to becoming the biggest female artist ever. In the late 1980s, Madonna released the classic song "Like a Prayer," which would become the favorite song of 1 out of every 3 college-aged girls (those statistics still hold true today).
Now, Madonna is back with the new album Hard Candy. The album cover features Madonna in full bondage gear, surrounding by a pink, white and red background that is reminiscent of a Magic Eye picture. In fact, if one could get past the somewhat off-putting image of Madonna in the bondage gear, one could easily get lost in the album cover. The first single off the Hard Candy, "4 Minutes," is already a monster hit. Producer Timbaland has said that Hard Candy is a return to early Madonna form. He compared the album to the 1983 track "Holiday," but with a more R&B feel, which should suit today's urban culture nicely.
