In case you didn't know, Miley Cyrus (a.k.a. Hannah Montana) is the biggest tour of the year. Yeah, I know. Kids get whatever they want. But anyway, her tour has gotten so big that it has inspired the state of Missouri to launch an investigation into ticket scalping.
Tickets for the Hannah Montana show are supposed to be $63, but they have been selling for upwards of $2,000 on various ticket scalping websites. Missouri's Attorney General Jay Nixon calls this a "blatant rip-off," and has filed a suit against several ticket-selling websites, including StubHub.com, TicketLiquidator.com and GoTickets.com. That's a ballsy move, Missouri. We knew they didn't call you the "Show Me State" for nothing.
So, parents, if your kids are bugging the hell out of you to go see Hannah Montana, you'll want to go over to StubHub.com, TicketLiquidator.com and GoTickets.com immediately before they get shut down.
Hannah Montana isn't the first artist to inspire an investigation into ticket prices. In the mid-90s, Pearl Jam famously inspired an investigation of Ticketmaster's policies, although the investigation ultimately led to a ruling in favor of Ticketmaster and no real changes in the company's practices.
If Hannah Montana can somehow succeed in bringing down ticket scalpers, then expect Hannah to tackle the following issues next:
-The Iraq War
-Gay Marriage
-Social Security
-The Israel-PLO battle
-Racism
-Poverty
-World Peace
-Sexual Predators (she's probably already dealing with this one)
Yes, that's Hannah Montana, saving the world one social issue at a time.
