Oh yes, the outspoken singer of Senses Fail had some harsh words for Panic! At the Disco recently, saying, "so many bands feel it's necessary to look intelligent, and create an image and credibility. The kids in Panic! At The Disco claim they’re into Morrissey and the Smiths. That’s bullshit, they like Blink 182.... Bands worry too much about their image, and it's lame.” And hey, Pete Wentz, he has some words for you, too....
Though his gripe with Fall Out Boy isn't really fair, given all the work that the band has done for the Invisible Children charity:
We’re very honest about who we are. There’s bands like Fall Out Boy who are huge, so far into American pop culture, and way beyond representing any scene but act as if they’re small. I really like those guys, but I wish he (Pete Wentz) would take responsibility and be more outspoken about things I know he cares about. GO ahead and sell dolls to kids, but don’t pretend you’re something you’re not.
I mean, the band did go to Uganda -- and almost get killed -- last month to raise awareness for their favorite charity. They played Live Earth and did a lot of environmentally-conscious interviews. Pete speaks openly about mental illness and racism. I fail to see what he's not doing.
As for what Panic! At the Disco listens to in their free time, I really can't say, as I don't have access to their iPods. Buddy did note that Senses Fail likes " Jimmy Eat World, Promise Ring and the Get Up Kids. Bands worry too much about their image, and its lame.” He acts like he just admitted that all they listen to is Weird Al, Nickelback, and Ashlee Simpson or something.
Finally, he had some fun with all the kooky Christian bands that proliferate punk rock:
I think titles really suck. In the states there’s a big Christian and straight edge punk scene. Kids will go out just to see these bands, who are mostly Evangelists, and they preach intolerance to the kids. They claim they’re punk, but they aren’t tolerant of all human beings and different lifestyles and religions, and this is ignorant. Punk was always about being you and not giving a fuck. Today the most punk thing you can do is be yourself and not have an image.
Sounds fair to me, though those bands claim they're "persecuted," so expect a rebuttal there, too.
Should be a fun run of interviews in the next few weeks....
