Hey everyone. Pixie is out today so I'm taking over the emo news report. Don't worry, I think I know how this works. You guys like Limp Bizkit, right? What? Oh, umm, alright, maybe I should just get to the news...
Fall Out Boy will release their live CD/DVD on April 1st. The album will be titled **** Live and Absolute Punk has the cover art right here. I'm hoping this isn't some elaborate April Fool's joke, because I'm pretty sure that would cause a 14-year old girl to murder a record executive, and preteen-on-exec crime is already out of control. FOB will also be involved with two upcoming comic books. Also, Pete Wentz will appear shirtless in the next US Weekly. I just made that up but there's a 90% chance it's true.
Also from AP.net: It has been revealed that Cobra Starship's next single off Viva La Cobra will be "Scandalous."
Jimmy Eat World and Paramore announced a co-headlining tour a little while ago, and now we have dates, courtesy of Rolling Stone. The schedule is missing big cities like New York and L.A., but the bands will be stopping in a bunch of Middle American towns like Dayton, OH and Council Bluffs, IA. Good for them. Middle America usually gets the shaft when it comes to big-time tours, so it's nice to see this semi-major tour going through a bunch of smaller cities. Unfortunately for Hayley Williams, the ratio of perverts to normal people is the same no matter where you go, so she can get ready for some extreme sexual harassment throughout this tour. If you go to that link, you'll see that Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam has also announced several solo dates in California. I'm hoping he comes East; it'll be like a second Christmas for me, only with fewer drunken aunts and less crying.
In not-emo-at-all news, Tom Petty received a huge boost in sales from his Super Bowl performance. Petty's Greatest Hits sold 33,000 copies in the week after the Super Bowl. This is cool because Petty didn't try to do an over-the-top, flashy halftime show. He just went out there and played 4 of his best songs without any crazy fireworks or dance ensembles or guest appearances from Lance Bass or any of that nonsense. It was one of the best Super Bowl halftimes I can remember, so I'm glad to see him rewarded. Tom Petty's weed dealer has to be pretty excited as well... you know that money is going straight towards hash.
OK, let's end with some industry news. TVT Records laid off a bunch of employees this week and are expected to file for bankruptcy. Hopefully this won't affect Default or... well, alright, Default is the only band I know on that label. Tough break, though. In other news, a study has shown that kids ages 9-14 actually purchase music from iTunes more often than they download illegally. Well of course they do, their parents are paying for it. The kids get their music without spending a cent of their own money, and the parents don't have to be embarrassed when their daughter walks 20 feet in front of them at the mall. It's a win-win. Glad we cleared that up. I can only assume the cure for cancer is right around the corner.
Alright, that's all for today. Things seem pretty slow on the emo/punk front, but the comments section is open in case I forgot anything. I know a lot of you are off from school/work this week, so that means you should be spending as much time as possible on the Internet.
