Dr. Dre has filed a lawsuit against Death Row Records in an attempt to snag the rights to his 1992 solo debut, The Chronic. Dre filed suit in bankruptcy court and asked the court to rescind two agreements made in the ‘90s to give Death Row the copyrights and distribution rights to the album.
Dre notified the label in 2000 that he wanted the rights back because he had stopped receiving royalties. Now he is asking for the copyrights, trying to stop the label from selling the copyrights to someone else and asking for restitution for any revenue earned from the use of the copyrights to The Chronic.
Someone rip that cigar out of Suge's mouth, I'm sure he won't be puffing his way through this one. The label is currently under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and has been struggling for years. Dre is critical of both Suge and the label's chapter 11 trustee, Todd Neilson.
