The discussion, hilariously titled "From Imus to Industry: The Business of Stereotypes and Degrading Images," was led by Bobby Rush, a Democratic Representative of Illinois. He explained his reasoning for the discussion recently saying that although he respects the First Amendment, "rights without responsibility is anarchy, and that's much of what we have now."
Apparently attendance from the familiar faces of hip hop was low (in SOHH's opinion). Well, Mississippi native David Banner was there (duh, dude wrote "Play") and he was as outspoken as ever:
If by some stroke of the pen hip-hop was silenced, the issues would still be present in our communities. Drugs, violence and the criminal element were around long before hip-hop existed.
Okay, so he wasn't that pissed, but I'd say he made his point rather succinctly. Add that to the fact that nobody proposed censorship as a solution to the "problem" in hip hop and I'd say it was a pretty nice Tuesday.
