The New Jersey contractor who slapped Ja Rule with a criminal complaint last week has asked a judge to dismiss the complaint for fear of his safety. As you might've read last week, the contractor, Joel Tobia, says Ja owes him $8,000 for work done earlier in the year.
Tobia told the judge that that he was concerned for his family's safety and asked the judge to read between the lines. The judge replied, "it's not my job to read between the lines."
Although Tobia comes off a bit racist here, Ja does give him cause for concern as the rapper is currently facing felony gun charges after being pulled over last month with a loaded semiautomatic gun. Those charges carry a three and a half year jail sentence.
Ja's attorney called the contractor's case "a simple dispute between a contractor and a homeowner" and asked that the it be settled outside of criminal court.
Tobia, says he put in more than 150 hours in at Rule's house, alongside
six of his employees. He also claims Rule has only paid $5,000 of the
$13k due for the work.
But, let's look at the positives here. This is all great free press for Ja, whose new album will hit shelves in a bit more than a month. The Mirror is expected on September 25.
The release will be Ja Rule's seventh album and it features Lil Wayne on the lead single, "Uh-Ohhh!"
