Ah, America. Must you constantly make us look like completely paranoid idiots at every turn? Apparently, the answer is "yes." I suppose the "great Mooninite scare of 2007" in Boston wasn't bad enough -- we now have the "great Coheed & Cambria scare of 2007," which took place at Kansas State University. Because everyone knows a spray painted logo and date means "school shooting."
In fairness, there have apparently been some issues on that specific campus; someone shot some windows out in one of their dorms a few weeks ago. I can see how people might be a bit uptight given the situation, but to jump to the wild conclusion that the "graffiti" logo and date meant a shooting would happen 10/23/07? Come on.
Someone decided to e-mail 400 people, letting them know that this was the sign of an impending shooting. The school also did the right thing, telling people to stop overreacting, and to find out what is actually going on, rather than starting rumors, should something like this happen again.
And while I know I live in New York and am particularly in touch with music -- and bands like Coheed & Cambria -- but you can't tell me there weren't any people at Kansas State University who didn't know what it was. Then again, maybe they were too busy laughing at all the people who were freaking out for no good reason to take the time to tell them the band.

10.23.07
Never forget.
