Remember that Kurt Cobain biopic that Courtney Love is helping to create? They've allegedly found an actor to star as Kurt.
This is probably worthy of a drumroll, but since the actor's participation is still not confirmed, we'll skip it. James "Don't Call Me Roy" McAvoy will play the part of Kurt in the movie, which is based on the Charles Cross book, Heavier Than Heaven.
McAvoy's film credits include Atonement, The Last King of Scotland, Wimbledon, and a bunch of other movies I've never seen. Personally, I'm glad that Kurt will be played by someone I don't know. The last thing you want is to watch a movie about Kurt Cobain starring Mel Gibson, and then every time Cobain is sitting alone in a room shooting up and writing in his journal, you picture him screaming "FREEDOM!!!" (or some ethnic slur).
This movie could be awesome, or it could suck. I have no idea which will happen. But I do know this: This is going to be one of the toughest assignments any actor has ever faced. McAvoy looks enough like Kurt to pull it off, but the acting is going to be difficult. My whole generation grew up with Nirvana. We've seen Kurt on TV. We've watched Kurt play shows, screaming into the microphone and diving into the drum kit. Many of us have been obsessed with Nirvana (some too obsessed). A lot of people feel like they know Kurt personally.
So for McAvoy -- or anyone else -- to embody that person is going to be tough. We're going to need a Val Kilmer Doors-level performance out of him, possibly more.
Good luck with that, James. And just a suggestion, you might want to avoid method acting for this role.
