This past Friday night, the Black Eyed Peas were in Mexico City to perform a benefit concert for children who are unable to afford an education.
The Peas also held a press conference before the show to discuss the importance of education. Will.I.Am said some poignant words, and then Fergie said this awesome quote about her bandmates:
Being in Mexico is special to all of us, being from Southern California. They call Will a "blaxican" because he grew up with all Mexican friends and family. Taboo, of course, being of Mexican heritage. My great-grandmother is from Guanajuato (Mexico), and [Apl] just loves the Spanish women, the Mexican women.
My best friend's cousin's grandma's dogwalker's brother's girlfriend lives in Mexico City, and she said the concert was amazing. The Black Eyed Peas even played the song "My Humps," which as you probably know is about the Zapatista movement and the injustices committed by the Mexican government. No, wait, I'm thinking of "Bulls on Parade" by Rage Against the Machine. "My Humps" is the song about asses. I always get those two confused.
Now, maybe you're thinking, "Tom Z, should you really make jokes about this concert? The Black Eyed Peas went out of their way to help with Mexican education when they clearly had no vested interest other than fulfilling a self-imposed moral obligation. What would the Mexican children think if they saw that you were making jokes about it?"
Don't worry. They can't read.
