Yes! And this news couldn't come on a more appropriate day, as it is also the day the band's remastered version of their classic album Goddamnit hits stores, along with a bonus DVD. [It is most unfortunate that I have to wait until Friday to buy this, but that's rent and bills for you....]
The band unleashed the news to their fanclub, The Blood Pact. There is no official release date just yet, but it will be out sometime this summer, on Epic Records. I actually didn't think the band would go with a major label, so that's a surprise... I was thinking they'd be one of the ones who saw the value in heading back to a smaller label and using their credibility/cache in the scene to sell far more than they will with the major label machine behind them. Oh well. I'm not judging; I couldn't care less who releases a new album from one of my favorite bands, so long as it gets released.
As for the finer details, the album is as of yet untitled [or the title is unannounced], it has been recorded and mixed, and will contain 13 songs. Knowing the band, the probably recorded about 20, and they'll surface... eventually... so they may continue their reign of iPod dominance for people like me who are obsessive about having everything.
Speaking of, I just realized I have less than 5GB left on my iPod and I find that extremely depressing, seeing as we're discussing new music that I will want. So here's my mini poll: would you/will you be keeping the original Goddamnit on the iPod, as well as the remastered version? Or will you choose one over the other? From what I have heard of the remastered version, it's really good... but at the same time, it is a classic album.
By the way, I do have debates like that inside my head all the time. So if you're ever feeling weird or bad or something? Be glad you're not me, where things like that clog up my brain and occupy my time. On a related note, I also manually type every song title/band name/album into said iPod because I don't like looking at capital letters on the screen. Why am I sharing this? Because I can.
Anyway... new Alkaline Trio soon. I'm guessing they'll be touring soon after, though right now, the only tour dates they have listed are Bamboozle Left and a show in California the next night.
