American Telephone & Telegraph was founded in 1885, but the current incarnation of AT&T that we all know didn't really begin until 1983. AT&T began in '83 as Southwestern Bell Corporation. After several changes, including the acquisition of BellSouth, AT&T Inc. became well-known as one of the leading phone service providers. Naturally, when cell phones began to gain popularity, AT&T was there, and the company became a leader in that field as well. "The New AT&T," as company CEO Randall Stephenson has called it, is always ahead of the curve when it comes to embracing new technology. AT&T has made a splash not only in wireless phones, but on the Internet as well.
AT&T's Board of Directors includes over 15 prestigious people, including August A. Busch III of Anheuser-Busch fame. AT&T contributes to political campaigns, with 56% of contributions going to the Republican party and 44% to the Democratic party. In August of 2007, AT&T caught some heat for allegedly censoring a performance by the band Pearl Jam. The band was playing a show that was being broadcast live by AT&T, and a lyric dealing with President George Bush was cut out of one song. Representatives for AT&T called the incident a mistake, but the company still faced heavy criticism.
Clearly AT&T is one of the biggest companies in the world today. Many people have AT&T cell phones, so it's no big surprise that AT&T ringtones are extremely popular. As previously mentioned, AT&T is ahead of curve with technology, and the company offers a wide variety of ringtones for its phone. Whether you're into classic rock, pop, latin music, or any other genre, you can most likely get what you need for your AT&T phone.
