20. New Found Glory - "[Everything I Do] I Do it For You " [Bryan Adams]
You wouldn't thinkit was possible that anyone on earth could turn anything Bryan Adams ever did into something even remotely tolerable, as I am pretty sure it is a universal truth that Bryan Adams sucks. And yet, New Found Glory managed this task.
19. The Vines - "Ms. Jackson" [Outkast]
The Vines took a horrible song and made it really nice. It's soft and comforting, unlike the original, which has a pitch to it just this side of "only dogs can hear it."
18. Dead Kennedys - "Viva Las Vegas" [Elvis Presley]
I dream of a day that I make a movie where zombies dance around to this version of the song at the end. Or maybe I saw a movie where that happened. Or maybe someone will steal this idea and make it into a movie. I don't care, I just want to see it happen. And no other song will do. Oh, and the Dead Kennedys just made this song so much more awesome than the original -- zombies would not dance to that one, not at all.
17. Placebo - "Johnny and Mary" [Robert Palmer]
Yes, Placebo managed to make a Robert Palmer song, of all freaking things, good. By the way, if you've never heard the original, I strongly advise you to not seek it out.
16. Lemonheads - "Mrs. Robinson" [Simon and Garfunkel]
The original is fine and all -- for its time -- but this is updated and perky, and brought the song to a new generation.
