An old friend of Phil's [who referred to him exclusively as "Philip"] took the stand at his trial yesterday, saying something was not right with him, he was drinking excessively. There was also some cross-examination of the last of Phil's exes.
During the cross-examination of the final ex, Melissa Grosvenor, Spector's defense team challenged most of her statements, based on information they said came from her sister. The woman replied her sister is a drug addict who she cut off financially, and claimed she believes her sister is being given money by Phil Spector to "do this to her."
...not that anyone should see that as an odd, paranoid statement or anything.
Rommie Davis, however, was the real focus for the day. She has known Phil Spector since 1957, as they went to high school together. She saw him in the days leading up to the trial and was concerned by his drinking -- especially because he was combining alcohol with his medications.
According to Court TV, "She says during their outings Spector talked about a special “brilliance-madness” gene he had inherited as the result of his parents being cousins." Further. she said, “That may be the sadness of what happened here" and called the situation a “tragedy” and says her heart breaks for Clarkson and her mother.
This seems to be the most damning testimony of all, as she publicly stated she "cares about him very much" and has "nothing but good feelings and thoughts about him."
Could have fooled me.
