Do you aspire to sing like the contestants on "American Idol?" Or, do you have a kid that you want to get out of the house for a week? Well, we've got the perfect camp for you. The creators and producers of "American Idol" are setting up a summer camp, to be held over a 10-day period this summer in Massachusetts. The camp is aimed at 12 to 15 year olds with a passion for singing. About 700 youth will be allowed to attend, but unlike the TV show, this camp will not be a competition.
According to Keith Hindle, executive VP of the show's licensor FremantleMedia, "As in 'American Idol,' the goal for our kids is to soar beyond their expectations; however, because 'Idol Camp' is not a competition; every kid goes home a winner."
Oh, they go home a winner alright. In addition to singing, camp attendees will participate in sports, swimming, and music video production.
Word on the street is that Kelly Clarkson will be one of the camp counselors, though that has not been confirmed.
