It seemed pretty inevitable that Vinnie, who was such an integral part of Fueled By Ramen, would eventually get another label going. And here we are: he's started Paper + Plastick. The first thing that strikes me about this label is how gorgeous the official MySpace is. And there's a great reason for that:

Agree or disagree with me but as the digital age of music comes ripping in I find myself missing the art. I miss holding the record, I miss reading every single lyric printed and every name on the thanks list.

Paper and plastick started for the bands that still love visual art to go with the music they put out and for the artists that use their creative energy to produce a backdrop of art for record covers, tshirts, screen printed posters and every other facet of a band visually besides the music.

Being a pretty big fan of both music and art, I think this is exciting on some level. I mean, my icon should be enough to let you know that I can get rather attached to album art [along with my frequent raves over the Chiodos Bone Palace Ballet cover and Our Last Night's The Ghosts Among Us.]

The "family and friends" list of bands is also pretty impressive:

The AKA's
Andrew Dost
The Explosion
Horse Bites Design
Landmines
Less Than Jake
Miracle Minds
MOOV
Pick Your Poisons
Punchline
Wunderland War

It should definitely be interesting to see where all of this goes. I like the idea of people crossing art and music, but without a huge cloud of pretension hanging over it [I think everyone knows which
artiste/musician I am referring to...]

I just keep marveling at what a great MySpace layout that is and how nice the artwork is. I can't wait to hear the music they start putting out and seeing what comes of this. Here's hoping for success on this project. I can't help but think someone as instrumental in the success of Fueled By Ramen won't get this right. I can also see a lot of bands wanting to work with them because they have design aesthetic like no tomorrow and really, truly know how to make a MySpace page worth sticking around on.

Noe excuse me while I check my finances and see if I can swing a Horse Bites... print, as that would look fabulous in my bedroom.
