Gavin Rossdale just announced that he would be recording a solo album. Over the past decade (give or take a couple years), Mr. Rossdale has given the world some fantastic work. Let's look at Gavin's finest moments, shall we?
7) "Head Full of Ghosts" - This was the last song that Bush put out, but it's one of my favorites. The only thing I don't like is when he says, "Where is my head, where are my bones?," it sounds like he's saying "Where is my head, where are my balls?" No video for this song online, sorry. Here's the audio.
6) "Machinehead" - This is probably the best Bush song, but it's such an easy pick that I'm leaving it back in sixth place just to give others a chance.
5) Tie - "Chemicals Between Us" & "Letting the Cables Sleep" - "Cables" is probably the most beautiful song that Bush ever wrote. But remember, Bush was down and out before "Chemicals Between Us" sparked a brief comeback. No "Chemicals," no "Cables." We'll call it a push.
4) "Greedy Fly" - This song was a diamond on an album full of chud. Remember when bands used to spend a billion dollars and make videos that were almost like mini-movies? Those were the days. Now, everyone lets their fans submit homemade videos, spends zero dollars, and pretends like they're doing it to give something back. And the end result is usually worse than Norbit.
3) Marrying Gwen Stefani - Landing Stefani was definitely a prime achievement and deserves to be noted here. Of course, since there's no video footage of the two getting married, here's the video for "Adrenaline," Rossdale's first of hopefully many solo tunes.
2) "Everything Zen" - The song that started it all. The line "should I fly to Los Angeles, find my a*****e brother" is still a classic. Plus, before "Seinfeld" brought us "serenity now!!," this was the official phrase to let people know that everything was cool.
1) "Glycerine" MTV Spring Break 1996 - This is possibly the most memorable thing to ever air on MTV that doesn't involve a guy named Tommy and the New Jersey shore. In this performance from Spring Break '96, Gavin performs the song "Glycerine" in the pouring rain, risking both electrocution and destruction of his perfect hair. After this was over, he set a record for "Most Undergrads Banged in One Day."
Honorable Mention
Institute "BulletProof Skin" - Gavin's post-Bush band, which lasted for about 6 minutes in 2005.
Blue Man Group featuring Gavin Rossdale "The Current" - Words cannot describe this...
"Swallowed" - One of the few good songs off Razorblade Suitcase besides "Greedy Fly."
"Comedown" - Really, the top seven could've all come from Sixteen Stone, but that would be no fun now, would it?
"Little Things" - More classic Rossdale lyrics; they seem really deep until you actually think about it, then they make no sense.
"Speed Kills" / "The People That We Love" - "Speed Kills" was the original title, but Bush was forced to change it to "The People That We Love" shortly after 9/11. I always thought that we as a society went a little overboard on that one.
Gavin's Worst Moment
If we're going to list all his best moments, we should include his worst moment. This was a tough call, as "Cold Contagious" and "Personal Holloway" both suck pretty hard, but in the end, I had to go with the song that I consider possibly the worst of the 90s. This song combines incredible suckiness with great unintentional humor. This was on the soundtrack to a terrible movie (American Werewolf in Paris) and the werewolf theme is pretty lame, but the end of this tune takes the cake. Mouth... mouth... mouth... mouth... mouth... mouth... mouth... mouth... mouth... mouth... mouth... mouth... mouth... mouth... mouth... mouth... mouth... mouth... mouth... mouth... MOUTH!!!
And let's not forget the "Deconstructed" remix.
